Almost 35 million people in the UK now have access to the internet according to recent figures.
That's a massive 58% of the entire British population of 60 million, giving the UK the highest online population in Europe and almost on a par with the US in terms of population share. Germany is second with 32 million online users, but this only represents 38% of their larger population of 83 million.
The United States continues to have the highest online population of 166 million, just pipping the UK with its population share of 59%. Next is Japan with 56 million users (44%) and China - 46 million (3.5%).
